Obama - His First 100 Days

Take a moment to read through this list of events during President Obama’s first 100 days and ask yourself if freedom is important enough to fight back. With the support of a Democrat Congress and liberals in the media, the President is moving quickly to consolidate power. Americans must stop him, and the first step to saving freedom is to strengthen the U.S. Senate with strong conservatives -- SCF editors

Editors note: this 100 day record is the creation of Senate Conservative Fund at this link. Over time, we will be adding to the original text in italics. Thanks to SCF. jds

Follow-up: we will be adding a record of Presidential Degrees, specific legislation and daily appearances. Clandestine meetings, when known, will be documented per date, as well.

You should know that this President has made more televised appearances than any President in history and we are only 152 days into his presidency. Already this morning ( May 25 8:30 a.m. pt) he has made two such appearances with at least one more scheduled for the day. We could be looking at 500 to 600 televised presentations for the first year. This is not about "transparency," by the way, but popularity averages.

His primary political capital is his ability to write and deliver speeches filled with romantic rhetoric bordering on messianic revelation. What sits on his horizon, however, is a gathering storm that threatens not only his political continuation but that of the party (the Dems) that has attached itself to him. No one in the Democrat Party has the same ability to sway crowds and ignite passions for change. If Obama does not meet expectations; if he looses his ability to manipulate and control events after the speech making is done for the day, he will come down hard and take down those who have gathered around him as well. He knows this.

What he doesn't know is this:
There is a fatal flaw in his armour and it is something that he cannot control. It is his arrogance coupled with a political naivety that is increasingly manifest to the point of becoming profoundly problematic. The silliness of the recent Obama inspired GITMO controversy is a typical expression of this flaw. The fact that he proceeds in closing GITMO without a plan demonstrates his naivety. The fact that he refuses to back off, choosing rather to go on the attack is a manifestation of his pronounced arrogance. When all the talk is done, when the glowing assent to principled rhetoric is ended, the Novice still has NO PLAN and that is the 'GITMO problem." Obama ignores the fact that Bush's Administration stopped the practice of "waterboarding" more than four years ago and only used the controversial technique 3 times, all under the watchful eyes of those in the medical profession. In light of this, Obama's that he is correcting the serious moral mistakes of the past in view of the fact that no such problem exists at this time. Such is the increasing character of this political debate and its larger national narrative.

Day 3 – Jan. 22 – Obama signs order to close Guantanamo by the end of the year – offers no plan to deal with 240 detained terrorists. 5/25/09 update: the GITMO debate has blown up in Obama's face. While this is not his "fault," the statement is nonetheless true and you can bet that if and when these numbers begin to show a reversal of the downward trends, Obama will take full credit - so the job loss averages belong to him.
Day 19 – Feb. 7 – Obama uses job losses caused by failed stimulus policies to push Congress to pass more failed stimulus policies in weekly radio address.
